About This Calendar

【DhammaJāta Arañña · Dhamma Gift & Connection | Honoring the Buddha's Kindness · Abhidhamma Day at the End of the Rains Retreat】

As time flows on, another Rains Retreat (Vassa) has come to a conclusion.

In the Buddha's teachings, the Vassa is a three-month period during which the Saṅgha dedicates itself to diligent practice and intensive meditation. At the end of this retreat, we not only commemorate the purification of the Saṅgha through the Pavāraṇā ceremony, but also recall the Buddha's extraordinary filial piety and compassion—on Abhidhamma Day.

📜 Dhamma Gift | 2027 Pāṭimokkha & Uposatha Day – Sharing a Wholesome Connection

To honor the Buddha's supreme Dhamma-kindness, DhammaJāta Arañña(Meditation Society)offers the "2027 Pāṭimokkha & Uposatha Day" calendar to the public as a gesture of Dhamma connection. The Pāṭimokkha is the foundation of the monastic discipline, and Uposatha are days of purification—when the monastic community recites the precepts and lay devotees observe the Eight Precepts. May this Dhamma gift accompany you through every Uposatha day of 2027, reminding you of the precepts, supporting the Saṅgha, and walking steadily on the path of the true Dhamma.

🌿 Abhidhamma Day: The Buddha's Gratitude and Compassion

In the seventh year after his enlightenment, the Buddha ascended to the Tāvatiṃsa Heaven to teach the Abhidhamma to his reborn mother, Queen Māyā, and the assembled devas. The Abhidhamma is the most profound and subtle of the Buddha's teachings. This teaching was not given for fame or offerings, but arose from a fully enlightened being's deepest gratitude to his mother.

During the three months of the Rains Retreat, the Buddha taught the Abhidhamma in the heavenly realm, and it was only on the day of the retreat's conclusion that he descended back to the human world. This day came to be known as "Abhidhamma Day," also referred to as the "Festival of the End of the Rains Retreat"—a major Theravada Buddhist festival, second only to Vesak in importance.

In Buddhism, it is taught: "To repay the four profound blessings above, and to relieve the suffering of the three lower realms below." Among the four blessings, the kindness of parents comes first. Through his supreme wisdom and compassion, the Buddha demonstrated the ultimate way of repaying that kindness—by offering the Dhamma, so that his mother could hear the path to liberation. This kindness transcends the distance between heaven and earth, and goes beyond the limits of birth, death, and time.

🙏 At the same time, we sincerely make these aspirations:

☀️ May we follow the Buddha's great compassion in repaying his mother's kindness—may all beings know gratitude, repay kindness, and honour their parents and teachers.

☀️ May we remember the Buddha's supreme wisdom in teaching the Abhidhamma—may this profound Dhamma treasury remain in the world for a long time, illuminating the path for those who are lost.

☀️ May we rejoice in the Saṅgha 's diligent practice during the Rains Retreat—may the true Dhamma long endure, and may many monastic teachers emerge.

☀️ May the world be at peace, and may all beings be happy—free from harm and affliction, with blessings of auspiciousness and fulfillment.

"To repay his mother's kindness, he ascended to the heavenly realm;
Out of compassion for beings, he taught the Dhamma-treasury;
At the retreat's end, he descended to the human world;
May the Dhamma-water flow endlessly, benefiting all beings."

May the Buddha's compassionate vows and wisdom, like a bright lamp, illuminate our path of practice until we reach the shore of ultimate peace.
